SUMMARY:Nesting Areas and related happenings at the Arden Hills Army Training Site (AHATS)
DESCRIPTION:4761 Hamline Avenue North\, Arden Hills\, MN \nJune begins summer when territories generally are all set and families are busily growing. In contrast to migration style bird watching\, we move to different habitats where the breeding territories are located. We will be birding in a guided car caravan\, stopping at choice locations. The site has lots of prairie and wooded edges for us to explore for their birding potential. \nDIRECTIONS     Enter the AHATS campus on the Hamline Ave extension just north of MN Hwy 96. Turn left (west) on to Ben Franklin St; immediately take first right into parking area; immediately take another right hand turn onto short driveway leading to front (east side) of building. Park near the entry doors of 4761 Hamline Ave N.\, Arden Hills\, MN. DESCRIPTION:Our Bike & Bird roster is growing! This year there will be 3 Friday morning trips (May 31\, June 14\, June 28) and  5 Sunday morning trips (June 2\, June 23\, July 14\, August 4\, September 15) – All led by Sherry Gray. \nJune 14: Rice Creek Chain of Lakes\, start will be at Wargo Nature Center (https://www.anokacountyparks.com/wargo-nature-center)\, 7701 Main Street\, Lino Lakes\, MN 55038 (45.1822288920191\, -93.08538891627603)  (This will require a parks pass for Anoka Co. parks). \nDIFFICULTY     Route is level and paved\, mostly off-road bike trail (shared with peds). DESCRIPTION:The Battle Creek Grassland is a critical nesting area which we have been working to preserve.  It is next to Battle Creek Park\, managed by Corrections\, with restricted public access.  Contingent on Corrections approval\, we will carpool from the park into a restricted area where we hope to hear and see Bobolinks\, Henslow’s Sparrows and other grassland birds. One way to prep for this walk is to watch  From Bobolinks to Blue Jays – Bird at Battle Creek    This trip is offered in collaboration with  Friends of Maplewood Nature \nDIRECTIONS    Meet in the South Battle Creek parking lot. From I-94 E take exit 246B for McKnight Rd S.\, go 0.2 mi.
