SUMMARY:AHATS Habitat Restoration - September 26
DESCRIPTION:Volunteer for AHATS Clean Up Days \nFor many years\, the Arden Hills Army Training Site has partnered with the Saint Paul Bird Alliance to allow birders access to its expansive area with many habitats for field trips and special events\, such as looking for owls and woodcocks. Twice a year\, the site invites the public to help pick up trash\, clean up vegetation\, gather seeds (fall)\, maintain trails\, and more. Participants are also welcome to bird and look for butterflies and other wildlife. \nDates:  Friday\, September 26\, 9:00 am to 3:00 pm \nLocation: Enter the AHATS campus on the Hamline Ave extension just north of MN Hwy 96. Turn left (west) onto Ben Franklin Rd\, and follow it approximately ¼ mile to the gate. Enter the Ben Franklin gate\, and park as directed.  Location is near 1567 Ben Franklin Rd.  45.08330° N\, 93.16482° W \nAttire:  Wear sturdy\, closed-toed shoes or boots\, and clothes that can get dirty. No open-toed shoes or sandals. \nEquipment:  AHATS will provide gloves\, vests\, trash bags\, rakes\, and other tools and supplies. \nFood and Beverage:  Bring a snack.  Water will be provided. \nAnimals:  No pets allowed.  Service animals are always welcome. \nWeather:  Clean Up Days occur rain or shine. \nRegistration:  No RSVP or registration needed.  Just come and go between 9:00 am and 3:00 pm as it works with your schedule. \n

City staff will be wearing yellow safety vests at the fireplace; look for them. There is available parking in a small lot across from the fireplace\, and additional parking at the Como Pool. Information: Wear clothes that can get dirty and closed-toed shoes. The St. Paul Parks Department will provide the necessary equipment. The parks department will require all volunteers to sign a waiver on site.\nSign-up: All are welcome! SUMMARY:Guided Field Trip - Spring Migration at Arden Hills Army Training Site (AHATS) II
DESCRIPTION:1567 Ben Franklin Road\, Arden Hills\, MN \nMonday\, May 19\, 7-9 AM (with optional extension to 11 AM) NOTE: Trip DAY incorrectly listed in April-May Cardinal \nThe Arden Hills Army Training Site (AHATS) is a 2370-acre military training area for the Minnesota National Guard and Minnesota Department of Military Affairs. Its vast area and variety of habitats are also used for environmental and wildlife conservation programs. Over 170 species of birds have been recorded at the site. \nSpring migration across the variety of AHATS habitats should be both exciting and very rewarding. We will be birding in a guided car caravan\, stopping at choice locations. The site has lots of prairie and wooded edges for us to explore for their birding potential. \nDIRECTIONS     Enter the AHATS campus on the Hamline Ave extension just north of MN Hwy 96. Turn left (west) onto Ben Franklin Rd and proceed about ¼ mile to the Ben Franklin gate.  Meet inside the gate\, roughly at 1567 Ben Franklin Road. We will proceed in a car caravan as group to multiple sites within the property. 45.08330° N\, 93.16482° W \nINFORMATION     The site has restricted access.  Be prepared to ride in a car caravan with 4 individuals per vehicle. All caravan vehicles will enter and exit the property together. \nREGISTRATION     Registration is required\, and begins March 30. Attendance is limited to 25 people taken in the order replies are received. Email kryssa.schmidt@gmail.com your mobile phone number with the names of individuals in your party.
