SUMMARY:Guided Field Trip - Spring Migration at Arden Hills Army Training Site (AHATS) II
DESCRIPTION:1567 Ben Franklin Road\, Arden Hills\, MN \nMonday\, May 18\, 7-9 AM (with optional extension to 11 AM)  \nThe Arden Hills Army Training Site (AHATS) is a 2\,370-acre military training area for the Minnesota National Guard and the Minnesota Department of Military Affairs. Its vast area and variety of habitats are also used for environmental and wildlife conservation programs. Over 170 species of birds have been recorded at the site. \nSpring migration across the variety of AHATS habitats should be both exciting and very rewarding. We will be birding in a guided car caravan\, stopping at choice locations. The site has lots of prairie and wooded edges for us to explore for their birding potential. \nDIRECTIONS:     Enter the AHATS campus on the Hamline Ave extension just north of MN Hwy 96. Turn left (west) onto Ben Franklin Rd and proceed about ¼ mile to the Ben Franklin gate.  Meet inside the gate\, roughly at 1567 Ben Franklin Road. We will proceed in a car caravan as group to multiple sites within the property. 45.08330° N\, 93.16482° W \nINFORMATION:     The site has restricted access.  Be prepared to ride in a car caravan with 4 individuals per vehicle. All caravan vehicles will enter and exit the property together. \nREGISTRATION:  Registration is required and begins April 15. Limited to 20 participants.\nWe will meet at the bird feeder just behind the MVNWR Visitor Center (no need to enter the building). If it is raining\, we will meet inside the Visitor Center. \nJoin us as we enjoy spring birdwatching at the feeder\, adjacent fields\, and nearby overlook. \nThis outing is appropriate for birders with a range of mobility challenges including birders who use wheelchairs\, walkers\, or canes\, as well as those who walk slowly\, but all birders are welcome. We expect to see many species of bird at close range. All birders from beginner to experienced are welcome. \n\n\nBinoculars will be available for those who need them. \n\n\nPlease dress for the weather. \n\n\nBirdability/accessibility description: The path is paved and has curb cuts from the parking lot. The path is wide and flat\, with no slopes. The bird feeder is just 400 feet from the handicap parking spaces. Disability parking spaces are available\, and accessible portable toilets are located nearby. City staff will be wearing yellow safety vests at the fireplace; look for them. There is available parking in a small lot across from the fireplace\, and additional parking at the Como Pool. Information: Wear clothes that can get dirty and closed-toed shoes. The St. Paul Parks Department will provide the necessary equipment. The parks department will require all volunteers to sign a waiver on site.\nSign-up: All are welcome! DESCRIPTION:Due to weather\, this event has been cancelled.\n\nMay 19th\, 5:30-7:30 PM: Volunteer at Cardinal Woods in Como Park\nWith help from the St. Paul Parks department\, our chapter has cared for a small section of woodland within the Como Regional Park system for many years. We have managed these woods as a preserve for birds and other wildlife. Over time\, this section has had several names. Now\, we refer to it as Cardinal Woods. Join us and the St. Paul Parks Department in pulling invasive plants and removing trash from the area so that it can better support birds and other wildlife. \n\nSign-up: All are welcome! Contact Karina Hanson (karinahanson@icloud.com) to sign up. She will notify volunteers by email if the event must be cancelled or rescheduled due to inclement weather. \nLocation: Como Park in St. Paul. \n\nDirections: We will meet at the Joyce Kilmer Fireplace in the Como Woodland Outdoor Classroom (coordinates: 44°58’34.6″N 93°09’08.2” W). City staff will wear yellow safety vests at the fireplace; look for them. There is parking in a small lot across from the fireplace and at the Como Pool.  \nInformation: Wear clothes that can get dirty and closed-toed shoes. The St. Paul Parks Department will provide the necessary equipment. The parks department will require all volunteers to sign a waiver on-site.

SUMMARY:Guided Field Trip - Spring Migration at Arden Hills Army Training Site (AHATS) II
DESCRIPTION:1567 Ben Franklin Road\, Arden Hills\, MN \nMonday\, May 19\, 7-9 AM (with optional extension to 11 AM) NOTE: Trip DAY incorrectly listed in April-May Cardinal \nThe Arden Hills Army Training Site (AHATS) is a 2370-acre military training area for the Minnesota National Guard and Minnesota Department of Military Affairs. Its vast area and variety of habitats are also used for environmental and wildlife conservation programs. Over 170 species of birds have been recorded at the site. \nSpring migration across the variety of AHATS habitats should be both exciting and very rewarding. We will be birding in a guided car caravan\, stopping at choice locations. The site has lots of prairie and wooded edges for us to explore for their birding potential. \nDIRECTIONS     Enter the AHATS campus on the Hamline Ave extension just north of MN Hwy 96. Turn left (west) onto Ben Franklin Rd and proceed about ¼ mile to the Ben Franklin gate.  Meet inside the gate\, roughly at 1567 Ben Franklin Road. We will proceed in a car caravan as group to multiple sites within the property. 45.08330° N\, 93.16482° W \nINFORMATION     The site has restricted access.  Be prepared to ride in a car caravan with 4 individuals per vehicle. All caravan vehicles will enter and exit the property together. \nREGISTRATION     Registration is required\, and begins March 30. Attendance is limited to 25 people taken in the order replies are received. Email kryssa.schmidt@gmail.com your mobile phone number with the names of individuals in your party.
