May 19th, 5:30-7:30 PM: Volunteer at Cardinal Woods in Como Park
For many years, our chapter, with help from the St. Paul Parks department, has cared for a small section of woodland within the Como Regional Park system. We have managed these woods as a preserve for birds and other wildlife. Over time, this section has had several names. Now, we refer to it as Cardinal Woods. Join us and the St. Paul Parks Department in pulling invasive plants and removing trash from the area so that it can better support birds and other wildlife.
Location: Como Park in St. Paul.
Directions: We will meet at the Joyce Kilmer Fireplace in the Como Woodland Outdoor Classroom (coordinates: 44°58’34.6″N 93°09’08.2” W). City staff will wear yellow safety vests at the fireplace; look for them. There is parking in a small lot across from the fireplace and at the Como Pool.
Information: Wear clothes that can get dirty and closed-toed shoes. The St. Paul Parks Department will provide the necessary equipment. The parks department will require all volunteers to sign a waiver on-site.
